Apparently Doctors don’t always wash their hands

Wow. That’s all I can say after reading this article from the Freakonomics blog. Apparently, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (admittedly a great hospital), only 65% of doctors washed their hands on a regular basis. More doctors washed their hands after the hospital installed a screen saver showing the bacteria growing on one hand.

This is scary, especially with the preventable infections people pick up in the hospitals. Hopefully things are different in the Quad Cities, and that Illini, Genesis and Trinity docs are washing up.

Maybe we need “All doctors must wash hands before leaving the restroom” sign like you see in restaurant bathrooms. If it’s good enough for McDonalds, it should be good enough for our doctors and hospitals.
